Has anyone of you read "Who Wrote The Bible" by Richard Freidman? It came highly recommended; the subject interests me and I've read neither. Any impressions/comparisons, etc.?

Excellent point, Blondie. How can the WT possibly endorse the use of blood "fractions" which can only come from the processing of previously stored blood. And another question: Can a JW conscientously offer his blood for the sole purpose of having it processed into "fractions" for his brothers/sisters without facing DFing?

"I was considering readin the bool until I learned it was written in the late 1800s!!! This book seems too outdated to gather any knowledge from" The mid-late nineteenth century was for many the Golden Age of Bible exegesis and commentary. So many of the critical works, concordances, etc. come from that era. Ray Franz, among others, certainly thought so.

Per Mary: " "Jerusalem will [continue to] be trampled on by the nations" whence the creative "[continue to]" embellishment to the text?

"Our Kingdom Service" was discredited and changed back in a Kremlin-style effacing of all vestiges of the creeping liberalization of the Ray Franz era.

Yknot, sadly there are far too few JW speakers of the kind you describe above; there never were too many to begin with and now they are on the point of extinction.

Were There/Are There A Number Of Gays At Bethel?
by minimus ini remember the "boy's club" mentality from many of the bethelites in the 70's and 80's.
it seemed there were a number of males who were "effeminate" back in the day.. i knew of one guy that was told by the bethel brass that he would "go places" at headquarters if he could learn to deepen his voice and tone down his gestures a bit (and he was told it wouldn't hurt if he ever married a fellow bethelite sister).
this man was extensively used at conventions, became less "gay looking" and got married.. so my question is, did you see effeminate men in bethel?

I was there in 1969 -- that's when they expelled more than 40 for being gay. I can't forget that, during my first month there, my table head, a senior Bethelite with a big job in the service department, a lifer, told me "there are a lot of guys 'light on their feet' here at Bethel. One school of thought which made rounds that it was ok - or at least tolerated -- as long as one was NPG, a non-practicing (i.e., celibate) gay.
